Mascara isn't actually something I wear every day *cue huge gasp*. I know, I know. It seems like every beauty blogger worth her salt is a bit of a mascara pro but it's been a good few years since I wore it every day. At university I used to wear mascara every time I wore any form of make up - university was NOT a time when I went in for the 'natural' look. I didn't exactly cake it on but my standard look for a night out was a 'drag queen eye', so let's just leave it at that.
Anyway, I did find that constantly wearing mascara damaged my lashes (although it was probably the frantic scrubbing with a make up wipe at 2am that really did it...) so after graduation I decided to cut back and let my lashes recover.
After a few months I discovered that I actually have fairly sizable lashes anyway, so now I only tend to wear mascara if I'm going out or fancy looking my best - day to day and to work I very rarely bother. Because of this I'm not really clued up on the latest mascara releases but when I was having a browse around Boots the other day I picked up the 17 (who are now going by Seventeen) Doll'd Up mascara (and free eyeliner) and, OH DEAR LORD, it's love.
Now, I don't think this is a mascara that everybody is going to love, simply because it looks so natural. I like my lashes to look fanned out and natural when I wear mascara but I know some favour a thicker, false looking lash.
In the pictures above I hadn't curled my eyelashes and had only used one coat. Doll'd Up does to my lashes exactly what I want from a mascara - it curls and lengthens them significantly but keeps them feeling light and natural, rather than thick and clumpy. I've worn this one plenty of times since and can confirm that it lasts all day, with no running or smudging, and it's a dream to take off at night.
Let's take a look at the brush:
Cor, FEAST YOUR EYES, ladies! What a brush. I'm not an expert on mascara brushes but that one just makes me happy. Clumps are not my friends and this one is clean as a whistle.
In conclusion, if you're in the market for a new mascara definitely give this one a go. It's on sale in Boots for £5.29 at the moment AND you get a free eyeliner, which is also a complete gem. Recommended!
